ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Carol A. Cavanagh is a British travel writer and former newspaper columnist. She graduated in Hispanic Studies from St Andrews University in Scotland and has undertaken further language studies in Spain and Portugal. A passionate traveller, she is fascinated by different languages and cultures of the world.
Her writing career began after winning first prize in a travel-writing competition run by Scottish holiday company McKinley Kidd in the 2000s. Since then, her work has appeared in various publications and on blogs and websites.
Along with her non-fiction work, Carol’s creative writing has made the short and long lists of various competitions, including the Wimbledon Bookfest short story competition. ‘When Portugal Calls’ is her first novel and is the first of two books in the Quinta da Saudade series.
Carol’s stories are inspired by her own travels around the world. She aims to entertain and uplift her readers by taking them to beautiful places.
Currently based in New Zealand with her Anglo-Kiwi family, Carol enjoys walking in the hills near her home and is a volunteer ambassador at her local airport. She retains a strong connection with the UK and still has a home in London.
